Best technique to achieve dreaming aware
As stated in my previous post… I have searched for years to find the best technique to achieve a state of dreaming consciously. During this search I found that at some times it was extremely easy to accomplish, with no thought of techniques whatsoever. In my experience this always occurred immediately after waking. At one point I even came up with the idea that techniques do not matter, but good timing was the cause. I never drew the connection between waking up with good timing, effortlessly slipping into dreaming aware and the simple process that made this so effective. I was going on about a year with no results on entering dreaming aware when I read “The Phase”. What I found made perfect sense to me as it co-related with two things I had already discovered my self. In particular his technique, the indirect method.
One: Moving the body is disruptive to a dream state…in particular when trying to fall asleep consciously, or initiate a W.I.L.D (a term I believe was coined by Dr. Stephen Laberge a pioneer in the field of lucid dreaming, and the first to actually prove that lucid dreaming was real in a laboratory.)
Two: Achieving this state can be really easy. I just never understood why until I read about the indirect method.
Anyway back to the point… after a year of trying to fall asleep consciously to no avail, I tried the indirect method by following the instructions diligently. The first night I had no results. I simply could not remember not to move after I woke up. On day two I remembered not to move after waking up, but I didn’t cycle through separation techniques after waking. ( A separation technique is any technique used when trying to get out of body.) The recommendation is to cycle through 3 immediately after waking. On day three I remembered both not to move after waking; and also to cycle through separation techniques.
If anyone is curious I use very simple techniques. Roll to the left, roll to the right, and roll forward in a somersault.
The results were amazing. I had six out of body experiences back to back. Every time the dream/OBE ended I remembered not to move, immediately cycled techniques again, resulting in another easy separation from the physical into the dream world while maintaining consciousness.
By the end of a seven day period where I recorded all my experiences, I had no less then 14 lucid dreams/out of body experiences. I knew I had found gold. After a year of failure my capacity to explore my own subconscious mind had floored me in its simplicity and effectiveness.
For me, and I am sure many others, this is the most effective technique for lucid dreaming, or out of body experiences.
For you metaphysical types out there I feel the need to point this out. Many believe these phenomenon are two separate entities. Perhaps they are, perhaps not. I have no idea. What I can verify is that you can use this method to go into a dream state; as in lucid dreaming, or you can easily make it feel as if you have just drifted from your body. Its all perception and belief. For me, my awareness has superseded the waking state and this interjection of awareness into dreaming is all that matters.
I have tried many other techniques and practices and will keep writing my personal experiences with them for any who are interested. It’s my hope that my experiences can help someone else out there to find their path, whatever that path might be.
